Rustins Exterior Wood Oil is a unique water-borne blend of natural plant oils and other special ingredients to nourish and protect all types of outdoor timber.
Ideal for exterior use on all woods, including doors, joinery garden furniture, fences and sheds, the oil creates a hard, durable and water-resistant seal to bring out the beauty of the grain within the timber.
During preparation, the wood must be clean, smooth, dry and free from wax, dust and contaminants. Existing paint and varnishes should be removed with Rustin’s Strypit Paint and Varnish Remover. Bare wood may be dyed before coating with Rustin’s Wood Dye. Oak and softwoods are prone to weather staining caused by moisture activating mould spores present naturally in the wood. To prevent this, it is recommended that the wood first treated with Rustins Clear Advanced Wood Preserver.
Apply liberally with a clean rag or brush and wipe off the surplus oil after a few minutes. The first coat should be applied liberally with a brush and allowed to dry without wiping. Nibs may be removed from the final coat by applying the oil with a scouring pad, rubbing in the direction of the grain, then wiping away the surplus with clean rags.
Bare wood requires three coats. Exterior softwood and end grain may require extra coats. The drying time is 2-3 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Allow four hours between coats in good conditions, ideally 15-25°C. Do not apply below 10°C or if rain is expected.
Coverage is approx. 13sq.m per litre, 1 coat, depending on the absorbency of the wood.
Rustins Exterior Wood Oil is sold in 500ml and 1 Litre containers.
